What we need is a real hardware store like McLendons. A place that always has just what you need and employees that can tell you how to do something. A second choice would be an Ace hardware store. What we don't want is another big box store.

I care that they closed...miss them and like them better than Ace and Eagles
I've never found that Ace had anything useful. Ace staff have always lied to me, assuming that because I'm female I don't know better. As soon as I find out the truth I go marching back there with my printed evidence in hand and really, really angry. They have never done anything to make it up to me. I certainly can't find what I need at Ace because they don't carry it. And what they do carry tends to break very easily. I am sad that Lowe's closed.
Or a store like Hardwick's in Seattle–a real gem.
